How RedteamAgent Works

RedteamAgent is an autonomous AI-powered red team simulation agent designed to integrate with Claude Code, OpenCode, and Codex. It transforms any workspace into a full penetration testing environment for CTF challenges or lab targets. The agent operates through a structured 5-phase methodology: Recon, Collect, Test, Exploit+OSINT, and Report. Each phase is executed with minimal user interaction, leveraging specialized AI agents and containerized tools to automate the workflow.

These agents collaborate to execute tasks in parallel or sequentially, depending on the phase and requirements. For example, the recon-specialist and source-analyzer work together during the Recon phase, while the exploit-developer and osint-analyst operate in tandem during the Exploit phase.

The system also supports resumable state, allowing users to interrupt and continue engagements without losing progress. This feature is particularly useful for long-running or unattended scans.

This approach eliminates the need for local installations and ensures a clean, isolated environment for each engagement. The agent also includes 79 reference files covering topics such as OWASP Top 10:2025, API Security 2023, and offensive tactics, providing a robust knowledge base for automated testing.

The agent supports two primary engagement modes: /engage for semi-autonomous workflows with user oversight, and /autoengage for fully autonomous operations with maximum coverage. The latter mode is ideal for repeat runs or overnight scans, as it automatically skips setup steps and proceeds through phases without user intervention.

The agent’s architecture is designed for resilience and recovery. This makes RedteamAgent suitable for long-term or unattended operations, where reliability and continuity are critical.

Key Features & Capabilities

RedteamAgent’s design emphasizes automation, modularity, and resilience. Its primary features include multi-CLI support for Claude Code, OpenCode, and Codex, ensuring compatibility with multiple AI-driven development environments. The agent’s autonomous workflow reduces the need for manual intervention, allowing users to focus on higher-level tasks while the system handles the technical execution.

One of the standout capabilities of RedteamAgent is its intelligence collection pipeline. The osint-analyst agent enriches this data with additional context, such as CVE records, breach history, DNS records, and social data. This comprehensive intelligence gathering is essential for building a complete picture of the target’s security posture.

The agent’s case collection pipeline is another critical component.

The agent’s containerized toolset includes a full Kali Linux toolbox, mitmproxy for traffic interception, and Katana for web crawling. All tools are isolated within Docker containers, ensuring that the host system remains unaffected by the testing process.

Resumable state is a core feature of RedteamAgent, allowing users to pause and resume engagements without losing progress. This capability is particularly useful for long-running tests or scenarios where interruptions are likely. The agent also includes unattended hardening features, such as auto-resume after stalls, queue recovery, and permission management, to minimize disruptions and ensure continuous operation.

RedteamAgent’s 5-phase methodology ensures a structured approach to red teaming. The Recon phase involves parallel execution by the recon-specialist and source-analyzer agents, gathering initial intelligence about the target.

During the Exploit phase, the osint-analyst and exploit-developer agents work in parallel to analyze vulnerabilities, chain exploits, and assess impact. The osint-analyst also performs periodic checks to ensure that new intelligence is incorporated into the engagement. This structured approach ensures that every aspect of the target is thoroughly evaluated.

Use Cases

RedteamAgent is primarily designed for authorized penetration testing in controlled environments such as CTF challenges, lab targets, and web application security assessments. Its autonomous capabilities make it ideal for scenarios where manual testing would be time-consuming or impractical. For example, in a CTF competition, RedteamAgent can quickly identify vulnerabilities and generate reports, allowing participants to focus on solving challenges rather than manual testing.

In lab environments, RedteamAgent can simulate real-world attack scenarios, providing organizations with insights into their security posture. Its ability to resume interrupted engagements makes it particularly useful for long-term testing campaigns, where interruptions are inevitable. The agent’s containerized design also ensures that testing does not affect the stability or security of the host system.

RedteamAgent’s support for multiple AI CLIs (Claude Code, OpenCode, and Codex) makes it versatile for different development and testing workflows. Organizations using these tools can integrate RedteamAgent into their existing pipelines, automating security testing without requiring additional infrastructure. The agent’s compatibility with Docker further simplifies deployment, as it can be run in isolated environments without host-side dependencies.

For security researchers and red teamers, RedteamAgent provides a powerful tool for automating repetitive tasks and accelerating the discovery of vulnerabilities.

Its structured workflow and detailed reporting provide clear examples of how vulnerabilities are identified and exploited.
